About Cat Breeds

Cats have handled their breeding themselves pretty much in the last thousands of years. They were used primarily for one reason-to capture and kill rodents. As the years progressed we began to breed more cats to our liking. There are some different breeds of cats these days-that you can tell if you look closely.

There are over 70 distinct cat breeds these days which are recognised by cat registries. There are many registries that can identify about 40 or so breeds, excluding the more domestic breeds including tigers. However, there are other variants, including wild cats which have longer fur.

There are some cat breeds that have quite a bit of heritage going back in history. Many Japanese breeds, such as the Japanese Bobtail, can be traced back in history to over 1,000 years. Such cats have been very popular in medieval Japan and well recognized. These days though, they 're all but a legend all over Japan and the whole world.

North America's most popular cat breeds include the alley cat, long haired cat, and Persian cat. Siamese cats are also common, although it is well known that they are destructive and have a foul temper. Persian cats are common, and they prove to be loving companions. Depending on where you get it and what type of Persian cat it is, Persian cats can be very expensive.

In North America alley cats are the most common. Actually, there are many different breeds, but most of us commonly refer to them as the alley cats. They make good pets, even though practically thousands of them exist. Cats are known to raise more than any other pet, and will continue to raise until they stop. Alley cats are among the most bred, because there are hundreds of thousands of homeless cats-so they have little to do other than race.

The cat 's look is the best way of saying whether it can be the breed. Many people prefer to go by colour, but it is not as easy to define colour. Various breeds of cats have different appearances, like the Siamese and Persian cats. Siamese cats are almost always black, and are easily identifiable by color and eyes. In comparison, Persian cats are readily recognized by body shape and fur.

There have been quite a few breeds coming along over the years. Some of the first pets were cats, and probably one of the most common ones. Millions of people worldwide own cats, many prefer a cat over any other pet-including dogs. No matter which cat breed you choose - you're sure to choose a pet that will make you a great companion for years to come.
