There are dogs who are sensitive to hearing gun fires, or are scared. And by preparation it has to become acclimatized. It is usually achieved by training the dog by adding shooting along with game birds through a procedural means.
This exercise will encourage the dog to associate gun fire with playing. If they hear the gunfire, the dog will know there's a game. The dog will predict the next shooting after getting the game retrieved.
On the other hand, tracking is based upon the scent being followed. There's just as much smell as there are games so make sure to train your dog on a particular scent. If you want him to go hunting deer you should get him used to the scent of deer.
