Health care for pets cat can be close to caring for other pets. But that care may also have differences of its own. One of them is that pet cats may suffer from a host of various diseases other pets may not be able to pass through. Here is a list of some feline diseases which may affect pet cats at some point.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis:
This is another viral infection fatal in cats too. When your pet cat shows signs of the infection, trouble will take years and years. Usually this infection is most common in young adult cats, and can be transmitted to other cats. There are two types of that infection known.
There is the "dry" type in which high fever affects the young adult cat as well as problems with internal organs such as the kidneys, lungs and intestines. The cats never seem to improve with this form of infection no matter how well the medication is provided.
There is also the "wet" type of the disease which has a fluid discharge within the abdomen of the young adult cat. Occasionally the chest of the cat shows a thick and golden liquid containing flakes inside it. This infection makes the cat run a high fever and would not normally be eating well.
Vaccination is the only protection which cats can have over the disease. But pet cats should be given vaccinations before exposure to the virus or else the vaccine will not be very effective in avoiding infection.
Feline Distemper:
This illness usually affects young-age pet cats. This form of viral infection, known medically as feline panleukopenia, lowers the immune defenses of young kittens by severely affecting the white blood cell development. This infection can cause young kittens to pass through, a liquid stool with blood due to the severe hemorrhaging in their small intestine.
It can also be predicted that fever would cause the young kitten to become distressed and then refuse to take any food or drink. The pet owner may think the cat has a temperamental personality, hence the name of the feline distemper. In reality the infection has no effect whatsoever on the personality of the cat. Unfortunately, a cat's recuperation for such conditions is very rare.
Feline Leukemia Virus:
That virus can severely limit the immune system of an infected cat. The cat has limited ability to defend against all sorts of other infections with the impacted immune system. It can spread this virus through contact with infected cats. For years many cats can become carrier of the virus without showing any external symptoms of the infection.
Cats that harbor the virus may often show clinical symptoms of infection if they undergo surgery, get injured or get lost outside their normal surroundings. These diseases may give pet owners an idea of how important pet cat health care might be to make sure that their pets live longer and healthier lives.
Feline immune Deficiency Virus:
This condition resembles human immune deficiency virus or HIV. This virus is found only in cats, and is spread by an infected cat mainly through a bite. This disease suppresses the cat 's immune system and makes the cat more prone to infection of all kinds. There is an intranasal vaccine available to protect cats against the FIV infection although some veterinarians are not so convinced that it can protect more effectively than other vaccines.
